Making Easy-2-Wear EARRINGS

The Spirit Hole discs I made are slowly
becoming EARRINGS for the Bead Hop
at the end of the month which encompasses
a four state area - NJ, PA, DE, VA - and is
sponsored by Beadalon through the
Main Line Bead Society.

I will be offering a Workshop on the making of these
Easy-2-Wear Earrings during this event on
Sunday September 29th, 2019 at
Blue Santa Bead & Boutique in Media, PA.

Participants will be able to purchase a one-of-a-kind pair
of my handmade reversible stoneware discs
as well as complementary components...

I will then demonstrate how to make the wire swings,
head pins and custom sized jump rings needed to
complete the designs of mine which inspire them.

So they can go home with their very own pair
of Easy-2-Wear Spirit Hole Earrings!

Components include Wasser & Beach glass beads,
stackable discs, 2-holed copper charms or buttons,
seed bead spacers, blackened steel or copper wire,
all of which are available from Blue Santa or Barbara.

Please contact Blue Santa Beads 610-892-2740
for more detailed information.

Spirit Hole Clay Beads...

These hand formed & hand decorated disc beads
measure approximately one inch across
and make Easy-2-Wear earrings and necklaces.

They are decorated on both sides but not always
with the same designs...

Being finished on each side makes them work well
suspended from either a necklace or earrings...

AND these are available for sale on my Etsy site:

E A R R I N G S

So I found some cultured beach glass
components I really like and had
to use them in some earrings...

In the two pairs above I used the Fish bones
in black and "Coke Bottle aqua" as well as
the aqua sea turtles.

The enameled shells (finished on both sides)
are from Gardanne and are accented
by copper fish skeleton connectors...

Last but not least are two more
hand cut contorted hearts in marigold
glass accented by Wasser mottled
top squares and drops...from Emily
Cohen, naturally!

Have a Heart Earrings

The thin stoneware hearts above and below
are cut from my own clay shards by
Emily Cohen of Catfish Studio who also
supplied the colorful Wasser glass
hanging under them...

More hand cut glass discs, hand cut clay
and glass hearts from Emily Cohen
married with each other, wine charms
and cultured beach glass...

Wine & Beer Themed Earrings

A Bit of the Bubbly Champagne Themed Earrings...

And of course, the Heineken Earrings
complete with a bottle opener charm...

P I N C H P O T S

Looking into a pinch pot can be a fascinating
experience...

But quite different from seeing one
from the outside!

Terra sigillata, underglaze lines and raw clay
add to the wonderment of the exterior...

Inside: Mirror Black glaze with waxed resist squares
(look carefully and you'll see them)

Bronze Chocolate syrup look in;

Subtle green infinity lines out...

Multiple matte glazes of red and black...

Scroddled clay with carved lines outside
accented with red copper stain...

But inside, an explosion of deep sea blues!

Several participants chose to layer glazes inside...

Or use the same glaze on the inside
as well as the outside textures...

And some like Judy made their pots into
catchalls with interesting textured collars...

Make 'n Take Workshop

Every few months, Nadia Bond and I do
a ceramic component workshop at
Blue Santa Beads & Boutique in
Media, PA.

Participants are encouraged to select from our
components, then as they watch (and learn)
our techniques, we fashion their choices into
"Clay to Wear"

This July 13th event will feature my wire and waxed
linen wrapped spirit hole discs as pendants,
always reversible and light weight for wearing...

Another technique which will be demonstrated is
my copper coiled 'SPRING' bail and the wire wrapping
of semi-precious stones such as Labradorite
and rough cut Lapis Lazuli chunks (above).

New earring designs using Spirit Hole discs made
from hand decorated stoneware clay will also
be featured...

Labradorite and Stoneware Hearts as PENDANTS

SIDE ONE: Pendants made from Emily Cohen's
hand cut stoneware shard hearts, coiled copper
'Spring' bails and Labradorite hangies...

SIDE TWO: The same pendants are reversible...

Pendants with Labradorite Accents

Labradorite is highly recommended for energizing
the imagination and generating creative ideas;
it is a mystic stone of transformation and magic.
A member of the feldspar family, it is particularly
treasured for its remarkable iridescent colors of
peacock blue, gold, pale green, and copper hues.
It was discovered by Moravian missionaries
in 1770 in Labrador, Canada, thus its name.

Not only does Labradorite aid in banishing fear and
insecurities, it also helps to eliminate negative energies
 and strengthen one's resolve.
If you want to reap the benefits of Labradorite
then you will have to carry it in the form of a
touchstone or wear it as jewelry.
The poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote,
“An individual is like a bit of Labradorite
which has no luster as you turn it in your hand
until you come to a particular angle;
then it shows deep and beautiful colors.”
